Why Reading A Book Is Good For You

Nowadays it’s easy to download e-books with the click of a button and I’m usually advised by Amazon Kindle which books are ‘recommended for me’. However there is still something special about selecting and receiving an actual book. I personally love the familiar scent of a bookstore, it excites me to wonder what I will find in there. Many of us find reading therapeutic, getting lost in a good book can allow us to take time for ourselves away from devices and other life distractions. Research has shown that reading a book can provide many personal benefits, let's look at 5 top reasons you should read a book every day.

Relieves Stress

Getting lost in a good book can allow you to forget your immediate worries which can help you reduce stress and anxiety. Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles.

Helps you to fall asleep

Reading is a much better choice than watching TV or using your mobile phone. The blue light from devices is known to confuse our brains and mess up our clock rhythm . Reading on the other hand is a positive bedtime ritual which will help you to relax and unwind making it easier to drift off to sleep.

Improves your memory

Reading helps to keep the mind cognitively stimulated and studies have shown that continuing to challenge your brain can help to delay or reduce the risk of Alzheimers. Reading will boost your brain activity, keeping you sharp and expanding your attention span.

Boosts Creativity

Reading a fiction novel can stimulate your imagination and imagination encourages creativity. The more you are absorbed in a book which interests you the more it will stimulate your imagination. Exercising your brain in this way can also boost your problem-solving abilities and give you confidence in reaching your life goals.
