Did You Know That Oral Health Is The Window To Your Overall Health?

Poor oral hygiene is often associated with shortened life expectancy and heart disease. Therefore it’s vital that we look after our teeth and gums. Here are a few Do’s and Dont’s to consider if you are looking to improve your oral hygiene routine.

Do Drink Plenty Of Water

Drinking water throughout the day helps wash away some of the sugars and food particles from your teeth that can cause stains and cavities. You could swish water around your mouth and spit after meals to help prevent bad breath. Choosing water over sugary drinks is also so much better for your teeth.

Don't Forget To Floss

Apparently tooth brushing alone only cleans 70% of your teeth. Yikes, flossing is the imperative to help remove plaque which collects around and in between your teeth.

Do Brush Twice A Day

Once a day could be enough if you brush very thoroughly and completely clean your teeth but most dentists advise that brushing once in the morning and again in the evening to prevent cavities.

Brush Don’t Rush

Pay attention when brushing your teeth to ensure you reach your back teeth and clean all the way to your gum line. Two to three minutes is the recommended duration to ensure you have effectively cleaned your teeth and gums. It's really not that long and is a small commitment to make for healthy teeth and a bright smile.

Do Visit Your Dentist

It’s important to get regular professional advice from your dentist by having regular check ups. They will check for cavities or  signs of plaque build up in areas you may be missing. They will advise on best practices to suit your needs and regular cleans will help take care of plaque and tartar before it becomes destructive.

Don’t Use Your Teeth

Well not for anything other than eating food. Removing bottle tops, nail biting and using teeth for anything other than chewing food can lead to chipping and breaking your teeth. The result of this can be unsightly and costly to fix.
