Spring Cleaning Tips & Tricks

Spring has finally sprung -  the flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, but your home might still be stuck in the Winter blues. Let’s face it, we all have that one (or many) junk drawers laced with random receipts, empty pens and the odd rubber band, that could definitely use a good clean. Although the spring cleaning process can feel super overwhelming, we have curated a list of simple and easy tips and tricks to help you get your home looking and feeling fresh.

Step 1: Make a plan

Creating a plan and getting organised can be the perfect first step to springing into action. The planning process will not only provide clarity on what needs to be done, but also allows you to break down the job list into more manageable bite sized chunks. The plan itself depends on your individual schedule, space and needs. For instance if you live in a studio apartment, this cleaning process could take one day. Whereas if you live in a double story house with 4 children, this process might be best done over a few weekends with timed intervals, so you can plan cleaning efforts around nap times, birthday parties and the dreaded 5pm witching hour. No matter your circumstances, we recommend writing a list of everything that needs to be done and assigning a time and date to complete it. Once you’ve started cleaning, this list can be ticked off as you progress through the entire home (it really is as simple as that).

Step 2: Assemble a team

It’s no secret that team work really does make the dream work, so feel free to bribe a friend, wrangle your partner or ask the kids to join in on all the Spring cleaning action. Obviously make sure to assign jobs to suit everyone’s capabilities and definitely leave the power tools to anyone other than the toddler. Who knows, Spring cleaning could become an annual family affair filled with music, yummy snacks and of course some hard work and elbow grease.

Step 3: Deep clean baby!

Although it is recommended to regularly deep clean your space, we completely understand that life gets in the way and the cleaning list becomes a low priority. Spring cleaning is the perfect opportunity to get your cleaning schedule back on track and for your house to feel more manageable and under control.

First on the priority list is checking (and dusting off) your cleaning supplies. If you feel that you’re lacking good quality products then check out our range of natural and non-toxic cleaning essentials. Once you’ve got your cleaning supplies sorted it’s time for the main event. We’re talking dusting, vacuuming, mopping and washing. Grab your products, put on some tunes and in the wise words of Rihanna ‘werk, werk werk’!

Step 4: Declutter

Now that the initial cleaning is out of the way it is time to declutter your space and give Marie Kondo a run for her money. Our favourite way to declutter is the three bucket method. Simply grab three buckets, boxes or biodegradable bin liners and label them; rubbish, donate and keep. As the labels suggest, simply go through whatever space you’re in and put items in whatever bucket feels right for you. At the end of this process you’ll have a bucket ready for the rubbish, one to be donated and the last bucket can be reorganised and items put in their designated places. This process is super therapeutic and a great opportunity to give back to those who need it by donating your unwanted clothes, furniture, toys and homeware goodies to your local shelter, charity shop or community centre.

Step 5: Springify your space

Now comes the fun part - adding the finishing touches to your sparkling clean home. Head to your local florist and treat yourself to some Spring blooms, because well, you deserve it! Next it’s time for all the spring essentials; candles, aromatherapy oils, diffusers and of course some Koala Eco Pillow and Linen Spray to make your freshly washed sheets smell even better.

Now that the Spring cleaning is out of the way you are ready for all the things that the warmer weather has to offer (but maybe you deserve a few days off to recover first).
