JUICING TO IMPROVE GUT HEALTH

Lady Pouring Orange Juice

Consuming juice can up your nutrient intake by providing the body with pure natural nutrition. By putting the most nutritious fuel from fresh fruits and vegetables into your system, it gives your body a break as the digestive system is not needing to use the energy to break down solid foods, and it allows the body to absorb optimal nutrients.

If you are considering juicing to help improve your overall gut health, then here are some of my favourite ingredients to consider adding to your cold pressed juice each day.

Ginger & Lemon

Dried Ginger

Adding ginger and lemon to your juices will give your juices a refreshing boost.

Ginger is a superfood that helps to promote good digestion, lowers the risk of infections and lowers inflammation in the body. It is a common natural treatment for stomach and gut issues, such as bloating, IBS, flatulence, and indigestion. Juicing ginger with other fruits and vegetables can help increase the movement of food through your stomach, improve indigestion, decrease bloating, and reduce intestinal cramping as it stimulates digestive acids and secretions.

Lemons also promotes good digestion. They are a great source of Vitamin C and phytonutrients and are high in a fibre called pectin – a probiotic that can assist good gut health.

Turmeric

Turmeric is full of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents and healing compounds. Curcumin which is the main ingredient in turmeric helps stimulate the gallbladder to produce bile. Juicing fresh turmeric root can help alleviate indigestion, bloating and gas.

Mint

Juicing Mint

Mint can be a great digestive aid, as it soothes the stomach lining in cases of indigestion or inflammation. Mint also stimulates the salivary glands in the mouth as well as glands that secrete digestive enzymes, therefore helping with the process of digestion. Try juicing mint with apple, celery and cucumber for a yummy juice combination.

Pineapple

Juicing Pineapple

Pineapple contains a special digestive enzyme called bromelain. The core of the pineapple has a group of protein-digesting enzymes, which provide the key health benefits found in bromelain and help with digestion in the intestinal tract.

Celery Juice

Celery Juice from above

Anthony William, better known as ‘Medical Medium,’ has founded a current celery juice movement. Anthony has stated that juicing celery daily can help heal all kinds of ailments and help heal the gut and digestive issues such as SIBO, IBS, constipation, flatulence and acid reflux.

According to Anthony, drinking your celery juice first thing in the morning on an empty stomach can help heal your digestive system and improves hydrochloric acid & bile production and strengthens the liver.
