Can you reduce wrinkles by Juicing?

Fine lines & wrinkles, skin looking less plump and a dull / lifeless complexion are all signs of aging skin. Aging skin is caused by many factors such as sun exposure, smoking, pollution, poor lifestyle and diet choices, stress and even sleep positions (Yep, I now try to sleep on my back). The signs of aging will catch up with everyone eventually. Before heading off to your nearest botox clinic, let’s look at the amazing power of consuming certain fruits and vegetables by juicing.

Juicing is becoming increasingly popular as people are recognising the amazing benefits it has for your body. Combining the right fruit and veggies can enable you to create an amazing taste with a high content of nutrients. Read on for some of our favourite juice recipes which could help combat premature ageing and fight against the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The Refresher

Ingredients:

1 handful of mint

1 heart of romaine lettuce

1 cucumber

2 handfuls of kale (about 2-4 stalks)

½ lime (green rind removed)

This refreshing juice should definitely be added to your ‘beauty from within’ regime. Mint is known to act as a skin cleanser, so adding a handful of fresh mint to your juice regularly can help reduce blemishes and acne.

We’re all familiar with the use of cucumber slices placed on eyes to de-puff them. However, it’s also a good idea to incorporate cucumber into your juice as they contain a high amount of Vitamin A - a powerful anti aging warrior. Vitamin A also produces collagen and diminishes wrinkles and lines.

Kale is also packed with vitamin A and is an extremely good choice to increase your daily intake of Vitamins C, K and antioxidants. The vitamin K in kale helps to reduce the dark circles under your eyes and tightens your skin, thereby reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Lime is a popular ingredient used in skin care as it’s known to cleanse your skin when applied topically and can be used to tighten pores also. Add it to your juice  to help rejuvenate your skin and keep it shining. Adding lime will add a lovely zest to your veggie juice, it’s packed with Vitamin C and has antibiotic and disinfectant properties too!

You’re Rocking it!

Ingredients:

1/2 Rock Melon with seeds (remove the skin before juicing)

1/2 Cucumber

2 inch piece of Ginger

I think Rock Melon is underrated in juice recipes but should be included in your anti-aging juice diet because of its powerful hydrating properties which can help to maintain the youthful elasticity of skin. Rock Melons also contain folic acid which can assist  in skin regeneration.

Both ingesting ginger and applying it topically have major anti-aging benefits. Data suggests that Ginger stimulates the production of collagen. It also possesses antioxidant properties and has a toning effect, meaning it may be able to normalize hypopigmented scars.

Sweet and Simple

Ingredients:

4 Carrots

4 Apples

½ of a Lemon (cut into smaller pieces, skin on or off is optional)

½-inch knob of Ginger

Apple is one of the most versatile and popular fruits for juicing. It is known to help in cleansing and softening the skin and reduces dullness to give it a glowing and flawless appearance. I use it whenever I’d like to add sweetness to practically any vegetable juice combination.

This recipe pairs them with ….. Carrots. Carrots are believed to be one of the most effective anti- aging foods due to the high level of beta-carotene they contain. Beta-carotene acts as an antioxidant to cell damage and it can help slow down the aging of cells. Also extremely high in Vitamin A which prevents premature wrinkling, acne, dry skin, pigmentation, blemishes, and uneven skin tone.

I like to add ½ a lemon to my juice every now and then for that added lemony freshness and apparently the form of vitamin C present in lemons is one of the MOST potent anti-ageing ingredients, so it had to be featured in this blog.  Vitamin C helps to protect the skin against the premature aging effects of free radicals. It also encourages the body to produce more collagen.

Since I started  juicing I have a newfound appreciation for the amazing powers of the fresh produce available to us. I enjoy having full control of what I create and how quickly it can make a difference to how I feel and how I look. You may already be juicing daily or considering starting your juicing journey. Either way we’d welcome your feedback, success stories or recipe ideas to share with others.
